Microsoft Confirms Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox Exclusivity Deal “has a duration”

As we guessed, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a limited or timed exclusive for the Xbox One.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has confirmed to Eurogamer that Microsoft’s controversial exclusivity deal for Rise of the Tomb Raider “has a duration”.

However, he declined to confirm how long that duration is set for.

Our guess is a 6 month window. How much Microsoft paid for this is anyones guess. Expect an April 2016 release with Crystal Dynamics gushing in PR "We always intended to share our creative vision to our loyal PS and PC fanbase"

Rise of the Tomb Raider to be Xbox One Exclusive
In a move that clearly no one saw coming, Microsoft has announced that the next Tomb Raider - Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox One exclusive. No, it’s not even coming to PC. Odds are a timed one, but that’s still a huge kick in the pants to PS4 owners looking to get their Lara fix in 2015. Will 2016 see Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4? If Square-Enix likes money then yes. What are your thoughts on the next Tomb Raider being an Xbox One exclusive?

Confirmed: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition will be 60fps on PS4 and 30fps on Xbox One
If you’re interested in the new and prettied up double dip of Tomb Raider, rumor is that the PS4 version will have a slight edge with a nice 60fps, while the Xbox One will still be 1080p but will be rocking a steady 30fps. Make of it what you will.

Honorable Mention: Telltale’s The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us

It seemed unfair to place these on the list, with both games having only their first episode up and nothing more. Though, it also seemed equally unfair to not mention them at all for various reasons. Both episodes of each respective game run at about 3 hours roughly, but they pack as much emotion, action, and character development in those hours than most full priced retail blockbusters. The Walking Dead even had it’s first season to build off of, making the debut of their second season highly anticipated by fans. The success of The Waking Dead even trickled into their new title, The Wolf Among Us, a game based on the Fables comic that maybe not everyone was familiar with going into. Telltale has found their sweet spot and they’ve been doing their thing well, with the future holding the rest of The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, Borderlands and Game of Thrones… next year is looking like it will be heavy with Telltale and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
