It’s been a long few years for THQ and the iconic developer and publisher has announced it has filed under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware this morning. The investment firm Clearlake Capital Group is to “acquire substantially all of the assets of THQ’s operating business, including THQ’s four owned studios and games in development.”
South Park: The Stick of Truth to have Kinect support
Why? Really, why must me shoehorn another game with Kinect support. Well, on the plus side maybe it’s something that fits in with South Park. Can I yell, “respect my authoritaaay” to my Xbox? That’s the only way this will be worthwhile.
THQ has a hell of a deal for PC gamers in their Humble THQ Bundle
THQ is dying, we all know that but at least they’re going out in a magnificent blaze of glory. THQ has their very own Humble Bundle offering going on right now which will net you games such as Darksiders, Metro 2033 and even Saints Row: The Third for about 9 bucks. And yes, they are redeemable on Steam. So if you ever had even a passing interest in any of those games or Red Faction and own a decent enough gaming PC; this the best deal you’re going to find.
Darksiders II is just around the corner and packing a whole lot of game. If journeying through 4 huge realms isn’t enough, you can spend some time in the Crucible.
The Crucible is a combat arena which will provide the ultimate challenge for Darksiders II players. After completing five of the mode’s 100 unique waves, gamers will be given the option of taking a prize or continuing for another five waves for a chance at even better items. However, if they fall in combat they will leave with nothing. Only the most skilled players will have what it takes to best all 100 waves and claim the greatest prizes. Compare your skills with your friends on an online leaderboard and see who’s the real wielder of Death.
Excuse me while I go and punch my Cthulhu plushie at this news. THQ has revealed in their financial reports that long in development InSane is no more. Being developed by Volition Games, InSane was to be a survival horror title penned by del Toro inspired by the work of Lovecraft. Guess fans of Lovecraftian horror have to hope that Remedy Games continues their Alan Wake franchise next-gen, which strongly hints at taking things a little in that direction after Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.
Darksiders II releases next month on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. If you love loot and action adventure games then it is highly recommended. The first Darksiders was easily one of the best surprises of this gen, and the sequel looks at least 5 times better. Check out the last devdiary for the game and see for yourself why we’re excited to ride with Death.
Metro: Last Light is one of the big titles that struggling developer/publisher THQ is betting on to keep their doors open. If nothing else; the latest Metro is one visually arresting experience. Metro: Last Light is slated to hit PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Jesper Kyd is mostly known for his work on the Assassin’s Creed and Hitman franchise and for good reason; it’s usually phenomenal. You can preview a bit of his new work on Vigil Games Darksiders II, which releases this coming August on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 after the break.
Metro: Last Light is looking to be just as visually awe inducing as the original if these new screens are any indication. Expect more Metro: Last Light next week, but don’t expect the full game till early 2013 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
THQ has had it rough in the past several months. With their financial situation looking pretty grim; they’ve set their sights on a strategy of focusing on less software but with bigger sales potential. Let’s face it, the gaming industry is a ‘hit maker’ driven enterprise where only the big fish get to eat and the guppies get swallowed. With yesterdays news that Itagaki’s Devil’s Thirdmay not make the cut for THQ, many wondered where this left Volition and film auteur Guillermo del Toro’s Lovecraftian themed horror title InSane.
It seems that development on the title is still ongoing and has not been canceled. If THQ plays their cards right I can see the title being a big success for the company similar to Saints Row 3. Volition is a fantastic developer and with the right amount of time and influence by a creative like del Toro, InSane could be the horror title to bring true nerve rattling horror back into gaming. Hopefully we’ll hear more of the title later this year.
Along with this sexy CE is the news that every preorder will be bumped to a LE which will include the first DLC for free.
The Darksiders II Limited Edition will include the standard retail game along with a unique code allowing the purchaser the opportunity to download the game’s first single player downloadable content pack, Argul’s Tomb for free once it becomes available. All pre-orders of Darksiders II will receive the Limited Edition version of the game at no additional cost.
Inside Xbox has a new preview of the excellent looking Darksiders II. The original Darksiders was a surprise breakout hit for Vigil and THQ and the Death powered sequel looks to better it with massive amounts of customization, platforming and loot. Oh that sweet sweet loot. Darksiders II launches on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this coming June.
