Ratchet & Clank are hitting the big screen

It seems like a no-brainer move for Sony but they’ve finally done it. The lovable Insomniac Games universe is coming to the big screen in 2015. Hopefully we’ll have an amazing looking next-gen game to go with it. A Crack in Time was one of the best games Insomniac has made yet, I’d love to see the gang in amazing 1080p.

What’s up with Microsoft and the state of the Xbox 360’s successor?

Microsoft has been extremely quiet as of late since the release of the Wii U and Sony’s announcements regarding the PS4. Some of you may have already been seeing the typical debates and/or questions: “Who thinks that the next Xbox will be Better than the PS4?” online. Many of us are eagerly awaiting Microsoft’s shot back at Sony’s PS4 info. Mostly to know which way we are going to go as far as what platform we are going to invest our gamer dollars. The wait be nerve wracking.

For those of us like myself who have been waiting forever and a day for Namco/Bandai to release Tales of Xillia here in the states, here is some of the first footage of the game in English with English voice overs. It gives us a glimpse of that Tales series combat that Tales fans love and post-battle interactions. It was released in Japan in late 2011 and is scheduled for release here in the states sometime this June. Since the PS4 is looming over the horizon, it seems that the PS3’s best is yet to come.

SCEA files patent for context switching between architecturally distinct GPUs
Rumor has it that Sony is going with 2 GPUs in the PS4 and now we have some proof. SCEA posted a patent application for Dynamic context switching between architecturally distinct graphics processors.

“Graphics processing in a computer graphics apparatus having architecturally dissimilar first and second graphics processing units (GPU) is disclosed. Graphics input is produced in a format having an architecture-neutral display list. One or more instructions in the architecture neutral display list are translated into GPU instructions in an architecture specific format for an active GPU of the first and second GPU.”

It seems that they are indeed aiming for an APU (AMD A10 based) +GPU combination with the PS4. As for architecturally distinct graphic processors, they will most likely use something from the 7xxx for APU and 8xxx for discrete GPU. This is all guess work at best but it does seem to line up with all of the rumors we’ve been hearing. Expect a lot more leaks in the next few months as both Sony and MS prepare to get the next-gen going.

Free PlayStation Battle All-Stars DLC

A New Challenger (Or Two) Appears!

Sony’s mascot brawler is bringing two new characters to the ring via free downloadable content! Gravity Rush’s Kat and Emmett Graves from Starhawk will be the first batch of what we hope to be a long list of characters added to the game. They’ll be ready for download early next year on the PlayStation Store and will be completely free for the first two weeks they are available.

“We’re very happy to announce these first two DLC characters will be free to everyone for the first two weeks once they are available for download early next year,” said Lead Game Designer Seth Killian. “…Let me be clear: once Kat and Emmett are finished, we’ll put them up for download. They’ll be totally free for two weeks. The only limit is that you have a two-week window to claim the characters. Once you have Kat and Emmett, they are yours forever.”

Emmett Graves (Starhawk) and Kat (Gravity Rush) respectively

These two welcomed freebies join PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’s cast of 20 characters that already include Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, God of War’s Kratos, and Sackboy from Littlebigplanet.

All-Stars is set to release November 20th, be sure to check in the same day for our review!

Dead Drop: How Sony Can Save The Vita

image

This years Gamesom undoubtedly belonged to Sony and the strangest thing to say is the PS Vita had a big part to do with it. We all know Sony has been slow on the portable platform and even slower on how to work in it, now they may have finally found their legs. Their first run in portables with the PSP was a horrendous failure. It alone had potential due to the Sony badge slapped on the front, but it never clicked with most gamers.
