Amy Hennig Leaves Naughty Dog

Amy Hennig, the creative director and writer on the Uncharted series, has left developer Naughty Dog.

Sony has confirmed Amy Hennig’s departure. She was writing and leading development of Uncharted PS4. Her final day at the studio was Monday, March 3.

Sources claim Hennig was “forced out” by The Last of Us’ Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, and explained that Uncharted may now come under their control.

Hennig recently celebrated her 10th anniversary with Naughty Dog, where she served as director and writer on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Sony has said that “The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted.”

What this means for Uncharted 4 and even more interesting, what the hell is going on over at Naughty Dog is anyones guess.

PS4 Becomes Fastest Selling Console in UK History
Congrats to Sony for making a hell of a nice system and it seems a lot of folks in the UK agree. The PS4 has beaten the records of both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One to become the fastest selling video game console in UK history.
Sony sold over 250,000 PlayStation 4 consoles in just 48 hours in the UK, generating around £87 million in sales, according to trade magazine MCV, citing retail sources. The figures blow first weekend sales of the Xbox One out of the water. MCV reported last week that Microsoft had sold 150,000 Xbox Ones in the UK during the first 48 hours after its launch. It’s also broken the LTD sales of the Wii U in the UK.

InFamous Second Son Limited and Collector’s Editions revealed

Sony has announced some fancy new editions for Second Son. If you pre-order now you’ll be able to snag the Limited Edition as a free upgrade, which not only nets you a sweet foil cover but also some DLC explaining what the hell happened to Cole. As Sony puts it, this is the only place you’ll be able to get this DLC:

But what’s this Cole’s Legacy DLC? For one, it won’t be available for purchase when Infamous: Second Son launches. It’s only available through these offers here. It’s additional downloadable content you’ll be able to play that uncovers what happened between the devastating events of Infamous 2 and Infamous: Second Son.

Cole MacGrath’s actions in New Marias set in motion a chain of events leading to the now forceful occupation of Seattle by the oppressive Department of Unified Protection. Cole’s Legacy bridges this gap in time with a series of missions Delsin Rowe must complete that reveal unique insights into how the world of Infamous: Second Son came to be.

The CE will of course come with all of that plus a beanie and more digital content.

Sony Santa Monica working with Battlestar Galatica writer on New IP
I think many of us can agree that Kratos needs to take a vacation. We’ve pretty much said everything that can be said about the big oaf with anger management issues. It’s time for the incredibly talented Sony Santa Monica to spread their creative wings and make something new; and there’s no better time than now with a brand new piece of hardware up for grabs.
Battlestar Galatica writer Michael Angeli has for the past two years been working with SSM on a new IP and according to him his experience writing BSG was a bit reason why the man got the gig. Can we be seeing a new Sci-fi IP from SSM coming next gen? It would be a nice break from Kratos that’s for sure.

PS4 Disallows Online Passes
Gamasutra was able to speak to Scott Rohde, software product development head for Sony Worldwide Studios America to gain further clarity on the whole DRM madness:
We’ve already come right out and said we’re not going to allow online pass. And the word “allow” is key there. Specifically with online, with PS+ requiring a charge to play online, we would not want any publisher [to charge.]In general, we’re all businesses. Sony or Microsoft is never going to be able to tell EA or Activision exactly what they can do. What we like to say at PlayStation is that we set the precedent. The way we are approaching this is that we want this to be extremely consumer-friendly, extremely retailer-friendly, and extremely publisher-friendly. My personal opinion is that it’s hard for me to believe that any major publisher is going to put an extra set of used DRM onto game titles because that wouldn’t put them in a good spot, right?

Bungie’s Destiny is a stunner

Destiny closed last nights Sony PS4 show with the usual beautiful skyboxes that are Bungie’s special sauce. Destiny will be hitting the PS3, PS4, 360, and X1. But Sony has entered into a long term deal with Bungie and Activision for continued exclusive content on PS4 for the Sci-fi epic.
