First and third-party games to be streamed to hardware
Sony’s rumoured cloud gaming deal with Gaikai will allow current-generation hardware to play PlayStation 2 and PSone games via a streaming solution. [GI]
According to sources, the service will offer first-party games and be open to third-party publishers to sell back catalogue to players. The partnership is likely to be announced at E3 next week as part of Sony’s conference on Monday.
As someone who has used both OnLive and Gaikai, I’m not a fan of this. It’s inherent with lag and feels like your playing a video of someone playing a game. But I suppose some folks will get some use of this, even though from the sound of it, it will be on a per title basis and not a Netflix like deal. Expect more details next week. What are your thoughts on bringing back PS2 games via streaming?
Konami today announced that New Little King’s Story will be available for download for the new PlayStation Vita this summer. Featuring a brand new storyline and online functionality, New Little King’s Story offers players a royal role playing game with enhanced Vita system graphics and features.
Sega’s classic Dreamcast title is coming to Sony’s little handheld that could. Sega says Vita’s “unique features provide new ways for gamers to interact with the environments of Tokyo-to, from touch functionality that makes spraying graffiti more natural to Vita camera integration”. Sounds neat. We’ll see the title in motion at next months E3.

Inafune’s new Vita title Soul Sacrifice finally has some new screens and art. The Vita exclusive is apparently taking a few notes design wise from Demon’s Souls. Expect more details on the gory dark fantasy title at E3.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Vita finally has a trailer and is coming to bring some stealth action to your Vita this June. The Collection includes MGS2 and MGS3 in HD with the addition of touch controls, trophies and the power of ‘Transfarring’ your saves between the PS3 and Vita version. No price has been announced as of yet but I’d wager it will go for a smooth $40.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to PS Vita, well at least in Japan. No idea if the rest of world is getting it but there’s always importing.
Imagine this: You enter a contest to win a sexy new PlayStation Vita and against all odds you win. You tell your friends and family the awesome news but then 2 weeks later get an email notifying you that you didn’t win a damn thing. A pretty crappy scenario right? Well, that is currently the exact situation many gamers who played the Taco Bell / PlayStation Vita contest are now finding themselves in.
The PS Vita launches next week, but you wouldn’t know it because Sony has been as quiet as a church mouse on the launch of the bloody thing. If you plan on picking one up, the game to get is Uncharted: Golden Abyss. It’s THE title to make your friends drool and help your wallet cope with the lost of over $300 dollars all said and done. Gaming. It ain’t cheap folks.
Square-Enix surprised everyone last year with the announcement of Final Fantasy X getting the HD treatment. Since then, we’ve had next to no information to go what the remaster will contain or even how it looks. Well, hopefully we’ll be seeing the classic PS2 title in its HD glory soon-ish.
Capcom is bringing the over the top battle of Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 to the PS Vita with all the modes of the console version and then some. Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 launches alongside the PS Vita First Edition bundle on February 15, 2012.
