GameDaze: My Top 5 From 2012

What a year for gaming! 2012 is going to go down as one of most interesting years in gaming. We had a lot of games that lived up to their hype, a couple of dark horses that came out of no-where to become media darlings and many that fell flat on their face. Then we have Mass Effect 3; which brought out ravenous love and hate at the same time. Honestly, I’ve never seen a high profile game receive such controversy.

Microsoft screws over Halo 4 LE and War Games Season holders

image

[EDIT] I’m hearing conflicting reports that access to the Crimson Map Pack may be for a limited time, with MS shutting some out Crimson Map Pack access come the 18th of this month.  Along with hearing that those that have already downloaded the pack within MS’s limited time will keep the pack. How Microsoft plans to revoke map access and take away achievements for said map pack will be interesting if nothing else. We’ll cover and update this story as it develops.

First the good news. If you picked up the Halo 4 standard edition and downloaded the specialization code that MS was sending out to early buyers, it also unlocked the new Crimson Map Pack (download it from within Halo 4). It was an accident on Microsoft’s part but now to cover their ass, as any PR is good PR, they’re now saying it’s part of their “14 Day, Buy and Play” program (which ran from Nov. 6 – Nov. 20).

Now the bad. If you purchased the Limited Edition (which included the War Games Season Pass) or just outright purchased the Season Pass from LIVE; you just got screwed out of some money. You just paid 25$ for 20$ worth of maps. As someone who picked up the LE, I find this to be complete and utter horse sh*t. Here’s to hoping that Microsoft rectifies this with something else for Season Pass and LE owners; or this will be the last time I’ll purchase a Season Pass or LE that includes one.

Halo: Silentium cover revealed
If you haven’t beaten or even played Halo 4, then you’ll have no idea what’s going on Greg Bear’s latest Halo novel. For that matter you may also be wondering who the hell is the robot looking dude on the cover. That’s the Didact. I just spoiled a surprise reveal - sorry. Halo: Silentium is the sequel to Primordium, which from what we hear is a pretty damn good book. You can pick up Silentium this coming March 19th,2013; but only if the world doesn’t end. If it does, no books or Halo for any of us.

Crimson Map Pack coming December 10th

If you’re anything like me and have been playing Halo 4’s MP since launch, you’re pretty damn tired of seeing the same maps over and over again. If I see someone choose Ragnarok one more time I may finally kill someone. Thankfully the first of three maps packs in coming soon. Very soon, like December 10th soon.
