38 Studios closes doors, goodnight sweet prince

The gaming industry claims another victim as Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios closes their doors. Reports are coming in that Schilling has laid off the entire studio staff working on Project Copernicus and the folks at Big Huge. We’ve been hearing for weeks now about the studios financial woes, but it seems the studio won’t be able to pull out an eleventh hour victory. Best of luck to all of those affected, and thanks for a fantastic game. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning may have had its share of problems but was a great start to what looked to be a promising franchise. I guess it just didn’t hit the sales it needed for the studio to survive.

38 Studios isn’t dead yet

Some new screens have surfaced from 38 Studios Copernicus MMO. These are three of the playable races in the upcoming MMO - the Jottun, Dverga, and Almain. 38 hopes to turn around the studios fortunes with the title and a proper unveiling of the project at E3. Here’s wishing them the best.

38 Studios has been in the news as of late for the studio being in a desperate financial pickle. It seems the check has finally cleared to their debtors and just in time to strike up some interest from private investors have released a peek at their MMO Project Copernicus. Expect more details on the title soon, unless the studio goes under that is.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3 cross-promotion video is a go-go. It’s a good thing this is happening, if only to help get word out about Kingdoms of Amalur. It’s a great looking game, one I thought for sure EA was going to leave out to dry in a marketing sense but I’m pleasantly surprised to see them actually give it some spotlight.

Ken Rolston wins Gamescom presentations with his announcement of Kingdoms of Amalur release date

I love Ken Rolston. The man is clearly a geek and he embraces it with a vigor that makes me almost shed manly tears. The man is also responsible for some damn good RPGs, you know like a little game called Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It’s with that in mind that I’m more than a little excited for 38 Studios Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the game has a super team of creatives behind it — not the least of which is famed fantasy author R.A. Salvatore (yay!). OK, I’ll stop my nerd gushing… check out a high quality version of the new Gamescom trailer after the break.
