Xbox Entertainment Studios to dig up E.T.
If you’re a child of the 80’s odds are you owned at Atari 2600, and you may have been the unlucky recipient of this wonderful gem - E.T. The Extraterrestrial. It was going to be one of Atari’s blockbuster games, just in time for Christmas too. Sadly, it was one of the worst games ever created. If E.T. was real he would have phoned home to get the hell away from his terrible game. As legend would have it, Atari was stuck with thousands of unsold cartridges and had no idea what to do with them. Soo, they decided to bury the error of their mistakes in the middle of the desert in New Mexico.
There’s a story here that needs to be told and Xbox Entertainment, Microsoft’s in-house studio for TV content is producing a documentary on what the hell really happened to all those E.T. cartridges and why of all things did Atari choose the desert. Atari confirmed that this happened back in 1983, and concrete was later poured over the landfill that it was dumped in so they’re going to have to do a hell of a lot of digging.
