Feature: It Came From The Bargain Bin - Vanquish

Third person shooters don’t get much more over the top or flat out insane than Platinum Games Vanquish.

Directed by the father of Resident Evil — Shinji Mikami, takes everything you know about cover shooters and flips it 180 degrees. Hiding behind cover for extended periods of time isn’t what Vanquish is all about. Nope, it’s about sliding and vaulting your way to victory amidst a chaos of robots and flying projectiles.

Vanquish released last October to some rather solid reviews, but like most Japanese titles this generation, it really didn’t meet the lofty sales goals that Sega and Platinum were hoping for. It also didn’t help that they launched during a period of the year that saw titles like Halo Reach and a new Call of Duty hitting the shelves.

While it has a short 7-8 hour campaign (that seems to be the norm as of late) and no multiplayer to speak of, it’s still an action packed thrill ride that any fan of Japanese gaming is gonna love. If anything, it replaces the typical Western Dudebro shooter aesthetic style were used to with the fantastical mecha designs that only Japanese developers seem to get right… and damn if we need more mecha this gen.
