What do you want from Resident Evil 6?

This year seems to be the year of Resident Evil. What with Revelations releasing next month, Operation Raccoon City in March and a new Resident Evil flick set to release later this year, Capcom is pushing the franchise harder than ever before.

For most Resident Evil fans, including yours truly, I couldn’t be more pleased. More Resident Evil is a good thing, but like many I’ve been asking myself, “Where the hell is RE6?”.

I heard rumors from several friends in the industry that Resident Evil 6 was indeed in the works and would be revealed soon, but it seems that Capcom placed those plans on the backburner. But with so much Resident Evil goodness flooded the gaming world, what better time than now to reveal the next true sequel to the classic horror franchise?

Rumor began spreading earlier this week that today Capcom would finally announce the sequel to the controversial Resident Evil 5. RE5 took the RE4 formula and expanded on it producing a fun and action packed title but one that was low on the horror elements that many fans wanted. I’ll admit, I expected more horror from the game but was happy with the end product none the less. Resident Evil 5 was a fantastic game that really showed off what Capcom’s internal MTFRAMEWORK engine could deliver and brought back one of my favourite villains in Albert “Global Saturation” Wesker.

With Resident Evil 6, Capcom has said that the franchise would need a fresh take, a reboot if you will. Rumors have been churning for months now that RE6 would be set in China with a global epidemic at the forefront of the experience. Those rumors may be true with this weeks viral advertising going on by Capcom themselves.  With the words “No Hope Left” being sprayed on walls along with  Biohazard symbol and strange videos showing up on Youtube showing what appears to be  Chinese woman crying and freaking out — odds are the rumors of RE6 set in China are true; which could also bring in Ada Wong into the fold.

The real questioning is what do fans expect or what from Resident Evil 6? Tank controls seem to be something that Capcom is moving away from and if anything last years Dead Space 2 showed us all that we can still be freaked out and not have to have the mobility of a bear shot in the ass with a tranq dart.

What do you want to see with Resident Evil 6? Action horror, or a return to the traditional survival horror the series began with but with better controls?

Hopefully we’ll find out tonight if Resident Evil 6 is being announced, and what fans of the series can expect from the legendary Capcom series.
